Restrictions
The following restrictions MUST be followed until a Sim reaches the top of the relevant career associated with them.
If you do not own a particular pack and therefore do not have a particular career in your game you can:
There are rules and restrictions for both branches of most of the careers that have them. However, for careers that haven't been split you may choose to take either branch in order to lift them.
For every one career completed (not including teen/part time careers) you may choose to purchase EITHER:
Career restrictions in Alphabetical order:
Actor
With no skilled movie makers the television channels are mostly just the test pattern and old reruns, and the few famous stars that managed to survive jealously guard their fame.
Astronaut
Needless to say, with the world in turmoil and the world's Governments and Military preoccupied with re-establishing Simciety, the Sims Space Exploration Programme has been put on hold. Re-building in this world is more important than discovering new ones.
Athlete-Bodybuilder
The radiation in the air weakens muscles and bones. As a result, muscle degeneration has set in. Even simple physical tasks have become impossible.
Athlete-Professional Athlete
Even though your Sims live in a Military controlled zone it is still dangerous out there! Sims not so fortunate to live in a protected area still sometimes get through the cordons and will mug other Sims for any food or possessions they may have. Due to the debilitating effects of the radiation only Sims at the peak of physical fitness have the ability to outrun the muggers and get to safety.
Babysitter
Modern parenting techniques have fallen by the wayside. Simply feeding and protecting a Sim’s child is hard enough, so no effort is given to raising them and shaping them into a proper citizen of the future. The workforce is too depleted to allow any individual households to have service Sims in their homes, subsequently all babies and toddlers are sent to a central day care facility when all the adults in the household are at work.
Barista
Coffee is now scarce in the region due to supply cuts.
Business–Management
The chaos in the region set off by the power plant explosion has broken down the basic economic fabric of society. The value of a Simolean varies wildly from place to place. All major markets have been destroyed or looted dry. All necessities are either provided by the Military or bartered with other Sims.
Business–Investor
With the economy of the region in shambles, people have no spare cash with which to invest in business concerns.
Civil Designer-Civic Planner
The nuclear meltdown and resulting explosion completely destroyed all gas pipes and the electrical grid plunging Sims into darkness and rendering their gadgets and devices utterly useless. Their structural integrity lost, many buildings simply collapsed while others were condemned due to heavy radiation. As the survivors cling to life, they resort to building basic shelters to protect themselves from the elements.
Civil Designer-Green Technician
Sims no longer trust traditional ways of producing power and are reluctant to add to the pollution already in the environment from the aftermath of the meltdown. Smoke from open fires mixes with the fallout ash in the air producing a choking smog.
Conservationist-Marine biologist
The radioactivity in the atmosphere has entered the planet's water cycle polluting the rivers and seas. It is no longer safe to consume or even handle aquatic plants and animals or be anywhere near riverbanks or beaches.
Conservationist-Environmental manager
The environment has been completely devastated by the radioactive fallout and all water sources are contaminated and not fit for human consumption. The plumbing has been severely damaged in the region. Water brought to the house is dirty and unsanitary. Radioactivity in the atmosphere mixes with the clouds forming acid rain and snow which falls to the ground poisoning the soil along with all the insects and small creatures that live in it.
Criminal-Boss
The local organised crime family has taken advantage of the lawlessness in the region to set up a protection racket. Nancy Landgraab and her goons force people to pay hefty sums to ensure nothing "bad" happens to what few possessions they have left. While some try to fight the mob, most just give in and pay.
Criminal-Oracle
The Military have complete control of what is left of the Sim Wide Web making it impossible to hack any information or insert viruses into programmes.
Critic-Art critic
With survival on everybody’s mind, the arts disappeared overnight. People are more worried about finding their next meal than they are viewing or buying art.
Critic-Food critic
After years of near starvation Sim's palates are less than discerning. Any food that is available is basic and uninspiring. A la Carte is definitely not on the menu, mainly because there are no menus!
Culinary-Chef
Food is scarce. The quality of the food the Sims can get is very poor and can bring illness to some. Fresh food is non-existent. Sims are reduced to eating only canned food and/or insects.
Culinary-mixologist
There is something in the water. In fact, there is something in all liquids that are made in the region. The radiation in the air seems to easily trickle into liquids making drinking anything a risky and unhealthy affair. Only the juices and liquids locked in fresh food seem to be safe, which is just enough to stave off total dehydration.
Detective
The local police and fire departments are in shambles and unable to do their job. A strong air of anarchy and lawlessness has swept the region. Violent gangs of anarchists prey on the old and weak.
Doctor
Because of the disaster and lack of any medical personnel there has been a total breakdown in the healthcare system. Much of the medical knowledge held by the Doctors , Nurses and Surgeons that died has been lost and medical supplies have been decimated and destroyed. Also, the radiation in the air has a devastating effect on the brain and intellect of Sims such that by the time they reach Elder they are all suffering from a severe and untreatable form of dementia.
Education
All the major school systems are in ruins. Education has all but gone from the region. All that remains is a small number of teachers employed by the Military on the Army base to teach younger Sims the basics.
Engineer-Computer engineer
The servers and fibre optic cables that used to bring the internet to the region were fried during the meltdown. Now power is scarce and computers are crippled in their functionality. Cell phone towers were taken out too, crippling phone functionality to the region. There is a severe shortage of computer bandwidth, and the telephone lines are having issues as well.
Engineer-Mechanical engineer
With a lack of Sims with any practical mechanical knowledge, most things in the home are held together with chewing gum and string and the only transport available is Shank's Pony.
Entertainer-Comedian
Life has been hard, brutal and short. Most Sims, traumatised by the death and destruction that surrounds them every day are depressed and fearful. Laughter, leisure and celebration are things of the past.
Entertainer-Musician
Amongst the toxic ash and radiation lies a region of despair. Sims are constantly off balance: either anxious or apathetic. Rhythm is lost to them and nobody even considers tapping their foot or humming, let alone playing a piano or a guitar. Stores containing stereo equipment have been cleared out by looters or destroyed in the wreckage. All dance and music left the region when the disaster occurred.
Fast food employee
The modern convenience of fast food has vanished overnight. Being able to find enough normal food is now the order of the day.
Freelancer
"You can't sit around workin' from 'ome son! Now get orf yer arse and go do some 'ard graft!" General Buzz Grunt.
Freelancer-Paranormal Investigator
With the death toll in the thousands, the grim reaper has been pulling long shifts. He is so tired of hearing pleas he has stopped bargaining for the dead. The whole region has become haunted with angry spirits. Your sims have been overwhelmed by the restless spirits rattling pans and eating all the food in the fridge. Something MUST be done to soothe the fears in the community and calm all the paranormal activity that has been keeping the populace up all night.
Gardener-Botanist
Any and all plant life in the region is dead. Nothing grows anymore. Natural and organic food is non-existent.
Gardener -Floral designer
With food in such short supply all available space is being used to grow fruit and vegetables, there is no place for purely decorative plants and flowers or decorative landscaping.
Law-Judge
With government regulators unable to enforce fair labour laws and the remaining businesses able to mistreat their workers who are desperate to keep their jobs, standards of employment have gone down the drain.
Law-Private Attorney
The days of marrying for love are in the past. The Sim population must be increased as quickly as possible or Simkind will die out. Once a Sim reaches Young Adulthood they are assigned a life partner and expected to produce the next generation with that partner as soon as they can.
Manual labourer
Lawncare and gardening are two pastimes that have really dropped off the radar of importance in the area, trying to stay alive is deemed to be more important!.
Military-Covert Operator
There is something strange going on in Strangerville. With all the chaos and turmoil caused by the disaster no-one in authority has had the time or resources to investigate the weird goings on.
Military-Officer
The mobs of vagabonds wandering the streets make it unsafe to travel anywhere but a select few highways. Neighbourhoods are scattered as nobody is willing to risk traveling just to visit with friends. The roads to and from other neighbourhoods are blocked.
Painter
The trauma of living through the greatest disaster in Sims history has left all Sims bereft of inspiration and they no longer aspire to anything more than basic day-to-day survival.
Politics
The political scene is a mess, more so than it normally is. Any politicians left alive are totally occupied with trying to sort out what is left of Simciety and have no time for diplomatic negotiations with whatever remains of foreign Governments.
Retail employee
The downtown shopping centre has been picked clean and the local mall looted. You can still *get* things, you just need to know when the weekly swap meet is. While there is a local market that has sprung up from the ashes of the old one, it is only open once a week. If you need something any other time, you are out of luck.
Scientist
Military scientists have been examining and experimenting on the various forms of alien technology found aboard the alien ship that crashed into the power plant. They are also attempting to contact the aliens that built the ship to find out what happened that disastrous night. In the meantime Sims are understandably fearful of, and have a great deal of animosity towards, anything 'Alien' .
Secret agent-Diamond Agent
The hardships of survival since the disaster have left no time in Sim's lives for romance. Because of the importance of re-populating the world, the powers that be frown upon any extra-marital affairs or multiple romantic interests among Sims.
Secret Agent-Villain
Something must have snapped in the mind of the mayor. When the meltdown took the life of his pet llama, the mayor went a little insane, enacting bizarre laws and mobilizing the region’s fire and police forces to enforce them while ignoring the suffering and other problems that a police force might otherwise be able to help with.
Social media
With the breakdown of Simciety and danger around every corner nobody knows who to trust and families keep pretty much to themselves. They no longer go out in groups and clubs of like minded Sims who share hobbies and interests no longer exist.
Style influencer
Sims don’t care about personal appearance anymore. They would rather be fed and safe than pretty. Cosmetics, hair care supplies, and clothing stores have all been cleaned out by looters or destroyed. As a result, Sims’s appearances have taken a turn for the worst.
Tech guru
Things are bad, but they seem almost artificially bad. As if the universe was conspiring against the Sims at the whim of some cruel otherworldly power. Sadly, the people are powerless to act upon this paranoid feeling and must go about their lives.
Writer-Author
The libraries and the bookstores are gone. The only reading material available to Sims are the instruction manuals provided by the military for educational/training purposes.
Writer-Journalist
The presses went silent the day of the great devastation. Sims everywhere have been without solid news ever since the great explosion and rumours run rampant, doing more harm than good to the recovery efforts. A sim in the family decides enough is enough. The truth is out there and they WILL find it, one way or another, and they will make sure that truth is broadcast far and wide to a population dying for it.
If you do not own a particular pack and therefore do not have a particular career in your game you can:
- Move those restrictions to another career that you do have available,
- Have your Sim lift them another way. For example, if you don't have 'Seasons' and therefore cannot do the Gardner-Botanist career you could make your Sim lift the restrictions by having to have level 10 gardening skill, level 10 logic skill, grow 10 perfect plants, graft/splice a certain number of plants, make X amount of money from selling harvestables and so on.
There are rules and restrictions for both branches of most of the careers that have them. However, for careers that haven't been split you may choose to take either branch in order to lift them.
For every one career completed (not including teen/part time careers) you may choose to purchase EITHER:
- 1 'Household Power Generator'
- 1 'Atmospheric Water Generator'
- 1 'Mitey Mitey Home' insect farm,

- May only cook 1 meal a day. Once any sim has prepared food, no other may do so for the rest of the day. A sim making a one-serving meal counts. Feeding a toddler baby food in the high chair DOES count against the daily limit. Feeding any pets on the lot DOES count as the family's one meal of the day.

Law-Judge
With government regulators unable to enforce fair labour laws and the remaining businesses able to mistreat their workers who are desperate to keep their jobs, standards of employment have gone down the drain.
- Sims may not miss a day of work or be late for work, if they do then they must quit that job and not re-take it.

- May not hire a gardener.
- May not take odd jobs.
Military-Covert Operator
There is something strange going on in Strangerville. With all the chaos and turmoil caused by the disaster no-one in authority has had the time or resources to investigate the weird goings on.
- Sims may not live in or visit Strangerville nor play out the story until this lift is cleared.
Military-Officer
The mobs of vagabonds wandering the streets make it unsafe to travel anywhere but a select few highways. Neighbourhoods are scattered as nobody is willing to risk traveling just to visit with friends. The roads to and from other neighbourhoods are blocked.

Retail employee
The downtown shopping centre has been picked clean and the local mall looted. You can still *get* things, you just need to know when the weekly swap meet is. The hardships of survival since the disaster have left no time in Sim's lives for romance. Because of the importance of re-populating the world, the powers that be frown upon any extra-marital affairs or multiple romantic interests among Sims.

- May not watch the Romance channel on TV.
- May not choose the 'Serial Romantic' aspiration nor purchase the 'Beguiling' or 'Great Kisser' reward traits.
Secret Agent-Villain
Something must have snapped in the mind of the mayor. - Sims may not 'troll teh forums' on a computer.

- May not visit libraries even if Military-Officer is lifted.
- May not purchase the 'Great Storyteller' nor the 'Speed Reader' reward traits.
- Sims may not watch the News channel, Weather channel or Civic Public Access channel on a television nor listen to the Talk channel on a radio.
